Service Delivery During Coronavirus (COVID-19) Lockdown

Street based people who inject drugs (PWID) suffer the most during COVID-19. Despite movement restrictions due to the lock down, Nai Zindagi is regularly accessing PWID across Pakistan to provide clean sterile syringes and other HIV prevention services in order to minimise the HIV transmission risks associated with injecting drug use.

The outreach teams, while taking all the necessary precautions, have accessed 12,995 individual PWID across 500+ designated hotspots in 38 districts of Pakistan. The outreach teams are providing need based services on a weekly basis to ensure safer injecting practices and reduce HIV transmission risk which may increase multifold in the absence of these essential services. Additionally, 2,977 HIV positive PWID and 173 spouses of PWID have been accessed for provision of life saving ARVs at their doorsteps.

Nai Zindagi highly appreciates this courageous act of our outreach teams to continue to provide life saving services to our clients. Nai Zindagi also greatly acknowledges the support of our partners, colleagues, in particular the ART Centre staff and the provincial authorities for their understanding and cooperation.
