Currently, when Pakistan struggles to control the spread of the corona virus, many in the country have gone out of earning opportunities owing to lockdowns, controlled mobility and the ensuing economic downturn. Continuing on its practice of helping poverty-stricken underprivileged individuals of the society, Nai Zindagi Trust did not step back in times of a global crisis like the Corona Virus epidemic. Pakistan’s transgender community mostly relies upon performing in weddings and other functions to earn a livelihood for themselves, while others await handouts to make ends meet. With the closure of economic activities as well as social events like weddings, transgender community have been left at the whims of helping agencies.
Nai Zindagi Trust, responded to the needs of Transgender community with support package including food items and corona prevention material including masks and sanitizers. With the financial support of Global Fund and collaboration of two CBOs working on Transgender population (Saathi Foundation and Khawaja Sara Society) , Nai Zindagi Trust compiled and verified deserving transgender recipients using their CNIC numbers and addresses. A total of 292 deserving transgender community members received support packages in Lahore, Kot Radha Krishan, Sahiwal and Faisalabad from Nai Zindagi Trust field staff at their doorsteps. All thanks to invaluable efforts from the Nai Zindagi Trust field teams and worthy contributions by Saathi Foundation, Khawja Sara Society and Global Fund.
