In order to enhance coordination for TB/HIV Co-infection management, a one-day training was organized at the Nai Zindagi’s Detoxification Center, Islamabad in collaboration with National TB Control Program on Wednesday 5th August 2015.

The objective of the training was to sensitize and train the medical staff of DTC and ART Adherence Unit on identification of presumed cases of TB, sample collection, diagnosis and further management.

NTP’s facilitators included Dr. Khawaja Laeeq Ahmed (Sr. M&E Officer), Dr. Waseem Aslam (M&E Officer) and Mr. Alamdar Hussain (Sr. Microbiologist) from National Reference Lab.

Main topics covered during the training included presentations on identification of presumptive TB, tools for diagnosis, sputum collection techniques, specimen packaging & transport, laboratory test report and further referral and management. A detailed mechanism for collection of specimens and transport to National Reference laboratory was also discussed and finalized.

Dr. Laeeq appreciated Nai Zindagi for hosting the training and expressed his hope that an effective referral mechanism shall soon be established for provision of TB diagnosis facilities through latest GeneXpert technology to all the HIV+ PWID coming to Nai Zindagi’s Detoxification center. Nai Zindagi team thanked NTP and assured its full cooperation in this regard for maximum benefit to clients.
